Is there a version of Quicktime for Linux? I can't find anything on the Apple website.

That's because they don't currently offer a version for Linux. However, they do have some open source projects in the works that are related to it, so maybe soon.

However, in the meantime, try MPlayer. It'll play most of the media files you might run into. It requires some work to install it (though you may be able to download a third-party distro that will be easier). Here's an article that gives the lowdown:

It has a link to the MPlayer home page. On the download page, they have a link to some pre-compiled distributions. They just won't be supported by the MPlayer folks.

There's also "Quicktime for Linux", which is another open source alternative. You can find it here:

I have no experience with this particular piece of software, so I can't comment on whether it works well or not. However, MPlayer is very popular and does work.

Thanks. I'll take a look at those. It sounds like mplayer is what I need.
